Practice Manager at Howell Surgery 

  • Location: Brenchley & Horsmonden, TN12 
  • Hours: 25 to 30 per week 
  • Contract: Part-time, Permanent 
  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (aligned with national pay scales) 

Join Our Friendly Village Practice 

Howell Surgery is a warm, community-focused GP practice serving the villages of Brenchley and Horsmonden. We are looking for a passionate and motivated Practice Manager to work closely with our dedicated clinical and administrative teams, helping us to deliver excellent patient care in a supportive and efficient environment. 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and smooth running of the practice. You will be supported by a finance manager, a senior administrator, and external HR specialists when needed. 

Prior NHS primary care experience is desirable, but we welcome applicants with strong general management experience from other sectors. Mentoring can be provided for candidates new to general practice. 

 What We’re Looking For

  • Strong general management experience 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • A positive, proactive attitude 
  • Ability to organise, motivate, and coordinate teams 
  • Confidence in setting up and maintaining efficient systems and processes 

Key Responsibilities 

Practice Operations & Staff Management 

  • Oversee day-to-day running of the practice 
  • Support and monitor staff performance 
  • Lead and coordinate clinical and administrative teams 

Human Resources 

  • Manage recruitment, retention, and succession planning 
  • Deliver inductions and return-to-work interviews 
  • Ensure HR records and compliance requirements are maintained 
  • Implement appraisal and training processes 
  • Manage complaints in line with NHSE guidelines 

Practice Development 

  • Support the achievement of QOF targets with administrative help 
  • Manage contracts, procurement, and supplier relationships 
  • Coordinate policy reviews and compliance processes 
  • Lead continuous improvement and service development initiatives 
  • Ensure adherence to all NHS contractual obligations 

Facilities, IT and Compliance 

  • Oversee building maintenance, premises management, and health & safety 
  • Ensure IT security and information governance standards 
  • Support business continuity and resilience planning 
  • Maintain compliance with CQC regulations 

About Howell Surgery  

We are a GMS practice caring for around 5,400 patients across our main site in Brenchley and our branch site in Horsmonden. Our enthusiastic team includes two GP partners, two part-time GPs, a paramedic practitioner, practice nurse, clinical pharmacist, HCA and GPA, along with fantastic dispensary, reception and administrative teams.

  • Work location: In person at our Brenchley and Horsmonden sites. Primary base will be Brenchley.
